Future Stars Development Clinics

Do you have a child currently playing in the u10 or u12 competitions? Are you coaching in these divisions and looking to develop your skills? Do you love free stuff?!

Then this is for you…

Starting 2pm Sunday April 15, 2022 and ending shortly before Junior Braves Tryouts (which start July 17), Bendigo Director of Coaching Joe Hurst, along with current Junior Braves u12 coaches will be delivering a series of fundamentals clinics. 

This is the perfect opportunity for young athletes to develop their skills! It also offers a chance to get in front of Junior Braves coaching staff before the tryouts.

Coaches are also encouraged to attend to assist and support the project. Coaches who attend will gain valuable teaching skills, get exposure to current coaching trends, as well as a breakdown on how to teach basic fundamentals and movements.

Community Coaching Course

Here’s something to ease the isolation boredom!

Basketball Victoria will be holding an online Community Coaching course on Sunday May 31. This zoom webinar tips off at 10am (runs for approximately 90mins) and is only $10!

In future seasons, the Bendigo Basketball Association will require all domestic coaches complete this course. See comments below

Going forward all coaches will be required to complete at minimum the Community Coaching Course to participate as a coach within the Bendigo Basketball Association. Head coaches will be required to complete (Level I) Club Coaching Course. Additional information will be provided relating to opportunities to complete the accreditation courses.

Coaching visit

This Wednesday, February 15 newly appointed Basketball Australia High Performance coach Peter Lonergan will be conducting practice for the Basketball Victoria NITP program athletes at Girton Grammar school from 6pm – 7.30pm.

Peter is one of Australia’s finest and most respected basketball coaches. He has worked as an assistant coach at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and at World Championship level with the Australian Opals (2006 Gold Medal).

The session is open to any coach who would like to attend, as Peter works with our region’s elite young basketball talent (no RSVP necessary) and offers a great opportunity to gain valuable insight into high level coaching.

Christmas Coaching Course

Looking for an early Christmas present for that special basketball nut in your life? How about enrolling them in the Club Coaching Course on Saturday December 17 at Bendigo Stadium?

Running from 11am-5pm, this course replaces the old Level 1 coaching qualification, and is a great way to improve your coaching skills.

The program consists of six hours of practical on court work, and one hour of online training. It is suitable for coaches of all levels looking to gain a deeper understanding of how to plan a season, structure a training session, and build on individual and team skills in both offence and defence. 

Cost for the day is $155.85. EDIT: The Bendigo Basketball Association & Beavers Basketball Club will be covering the cost of this course for any Beavers coaches who are looking to attend! Email Peter Allan for more information.

It’s almost that time – the WNBL Bendigo Spirit are fast approaching another action packed WNBL season!

Visit the Bendigo Spirit website to keep up to date with all the latest news, pre-season events and to check their schedule. The Spirit’s season tips off at Bendigo Stadium on Saturday October 8 versus Adelaide Lightning, so get your membership and get ready to show your support!

Plus, be at Bendigo Stadium on Saturday, October 15 to see our very own Beavers under 10 & under 12 girls play at halftime! (more on this closer to the day!)

And finally,  if you’re looking to add some polish to your coaching join Bendigo Spirit superstar, Kelsey Griffin, at Eaglehawk Secondary College on Wednesday, September 21 from 7.30-8.30 for a coaching clinic. A fantastic opportunity to meet KG and learn tips and drills for the 2016/17 summer season and beyond!

Big News! Bendigo Spirit superstar, Kelsey Griffin will be attending Beavers Basketball Club training sessions in the coming weeks.

The two time Bendigo Spirit MVP will be attending sessions on the following days.

5.30pm – 6.30pm Monday, 30th May at Kangaroo Flat Primary School

4.30pm – 5.30pm Tuesday, 7th June at Kangaroo Flat Primary School

4.00pm – 5.00pm Wednesday, 8th June at Bendigo Stadium

6.00pm – 7.00pm Thursday, 16th June at Creek Street College.

A vital part of the Spirit roster, Kelsey has won two WNBL championships (2013 & 2014) picking up two WNBL Grand Final MVP awards along the way. She has made the WNBL All Star Five for the past two years and has also played WNBA basketball with the Conneticut Suns.

This is a fantastic opportunity for all teams involved to meet and learn from one of the best basketball players in the game today!
